ODI SERIES FOR ROSEMARY MAIR

Central Hinds pace gem ROSEMARY MAIR will get the opportunity to add to her three ODI caps after the 21-year-old was named in WHITE FERNS ODI squad to host South Africa, from Saturday next week.

It’s a big season for the WHITE FERNS with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup also coming up this summer in Australia from 22 February, and a raft of regular and emerging players pushing hard for spots.

With regular skipper and new mother Amy Sattherthwaite sitting out the entire summer, Wellington star Sophie Devine has been named captain of the team that will meet South Africa in two rapid-fire ODIs at Eden Park Outer Oval, followed by a day/nighter in Hamilton, with all matches live on SKY Sport. Devine will also captain the otherwise still to be named T20i squad.

Rising right-armer Mair made her ODI debut against Australia in Perth last February, taking two wickets on debut — including Aussie captain and megastar Meg Lanning who was caught off the Napier-based Mair for just 6.

After a solid off-season’s training and detailed work on her batting, the consistent seamer is coming off a strong all-round Dream11 Super Smash campaign in which she claimed seven wickets with a best of 2-6, as well as smashing a new career-best with the bat — an unbeaten 36* against the Auckland Hearts easily exceeding her previous PB of 18* from her previous five seasons.

The WHITE FERNS T20i squad to play South Africa in the five home T20is still to be named.
