Since 1910 this historic trophy has been the most treasured prize in New Zealand provincial cricket.

Each summer after New Year, four Challenge matches take place. The seasonal winners of Zone 1 (upper North Island), Zone 2 (central North Island), Zone 3 (upper South Island) and Zone 4 (lower South Island) each earn a tilt against the current holder of the Hawke Cup.

Our CD District Associations Nelson and Marlborough compete in Zone 3 regional qualifying and our six North Island Districts vie for the Furlong Cup - the winner gets the Zone 2 challenge.

Challenges are 3-day matches. The Hawke Cup can be won outright, or on the first innings in a draw, at the holder's home ground.

HAWKE'S BAY locked away the Hawke Cup for the 2021 winter with an outright win over Hamilton, and will hold on to it this winter as well after having successfully defended it against Furlong Cup winner MANAWATU and Zone 1 Challenger BAY OF PLENTY

With the Omicron outbreak spreading, it was been agreed to postpone Canterbury Country's Zone 3 Challenge (which was to have been played in February 2022) and the subsequent Zone 4 Challenge until the 2022/23 season

The winner will then face a challenge from the Zone 1 (upper North Island) challenger at the winner's home ground. This will be followed by the Zone 3 Challenge which will be from the winner of the Zone 3 Final, to be hosted by Canterbury Country against Marlborough on Waitangi Day weekend 2022
