RODNEY GREEN FOUNDATION TURF TRAINING FACILITY

WORLD CLASS is a description too often used lightly. Here's a new definition.

Opened in 2023, our Rodney Green Foundation Turf Training Facility is truly a world-class high performance hub for elite cricketers and cricket teams. And it's the only place in New Zealand that players can train at night under the stars, in purpose-built and fully lit nets

The permanent training home of our flagship teams the Central Stags and Central Hinds, this $1.8 million dollar, custom Cravo greenhouse houses an impressive 16 grass wickets - eight at each end. The roof is fully retractable for optimal control, and fully lit - enabling both day and evening trainings, and outstanding preparation for night cricket

The sides of the 65m x 20m greenhouse are also fully retractable, creating a one-of-a-kind cricket facility in the lower North Island that allows quality, Spartacus ryegrass-wicket training all year round, in a New Zealand region known for its attractive climate. Hawke's Bay is the country's fruit bowl, and our facility sits square in the middle of renowned apple orchard and vineyard country

In addition, two of the grass pitches in the greenhouse are currently custom-sown in couch grass, specifically to assist players to train for subcontinent conditions - all on a bed of Test caliibre Patumahoe clay

Curated by former McLean Park Head Groundsman and Test match curator Phil Stoyanoff, this facility is the jewel in our CD crown. It's the place where our Domestic and International players train, and also used by visiting and International high performance teams, by arrangement

This amazing facility is accompanied by a 72-bed, self-catering sports hostel, sweeping new Indoor Cricket Centre, a full suite of sports services and professionals accessible on site, and full high performance gymnasium, boxing gym, Olympic pool, athletic facilities and a range of artificial training surfaces, likewise all on site at Mitre 10 Park, Hastings

ABOUT THE RODNEY GREEN FOUNDATION

The course of RODNEY GREEN’s future began at age 11 with an after-school job at his local Maraenui, Napier butcher’s shop

Armed with vision and a rock-solid work ethic, it was the beginning of a highly successful business career in the food and hospitality industries

Passionate about the Hawke’s Bay community, Green’s financial success enabled him to sponsor and assist a wide range of local sports and clubs, as well as directly supporting hundreds of individuals to achieve their sporting dreams

“I strongly believe sport helps your mental wellbeing, and mental wellbeing helps you in life,” he says

Green's philanthropy also helped to develop Napier’s Rodney Green Centennial Events Centre and Taradale’s Pettigrew Green Arena, and in 2019 he formed the RODNEY GREEN FOUNDATION with a goal of getting more Hawke’s Bay people into sport

Rodney has been a great friend of CD Cricket and, in conjunction with NZC, esnured we were able to deliver our oustanding new training facilities at Mitre 10 Park

The 2000m² Rodney Green Foundation Indoor Cricket & Boxing Centre and CD Cricket's all-weather training marquee — The Rodney Green Turf Training Facility, nicknamed “The Greenhouse”— stand today as testament to Rodney's lifetime of giving back to his Hawke’s Bay community and beyond

“Anything can be achieved, if you work hard”
