A busy and big week awaits 18-year-old CENTRAL HINDS batter EMMA McLEOD who returns to lead Central Districts Under 19 Women at the 2024/25 NZC age-group Nationals, starting this Sunday in Lincoln.
McLeod and Head Coach KERRY TOMLINSON will join the squad after Sunday's Hinds HBJ Shield match in Palmerston North, with Assistant Coach and Manager AMY FOREMAN looking after the squad for that day's opening round U19 match against Otago in Lincoln.
Rising star McLeod already knows what it takes and feels like to win a tournament in Lincoln, having last summer led Wairarapa's St Matthew's Collegiate to a ground-breaking national schools title at the same NZC high performance complex.
McLeod's not the only one in the squad who can draw on those good memories, with schoolmate VANESSA TAYLOR also named among this summer's CD travelling squad of 13.
Together with four non-travelling reserves, the CD Women's Under 19 squad features an exciting mix of players from right across the Districts.
STELLA CORNELIUS flies the Marlborough flag while CATHERINE HOCKLY and non-travelling reserve MADI GREENAWAY hail from Nelson as female cricket continues to go from strength to strength in the top of the south.
Taranaki is strongly represented with five up and coming players: SOPHIE CAMPBELL, CARA HOLLARD, ANIKA SCOTT, CHARLOTTE BUTLER and CAITLIN MARSHALL, while Manawatū provides ABBY TREDER, SUMMER LOVEGROVE and ELLA HOGAN.
JENNA ALLISON is the sole Hawke's Bay rep in this year's travelling squad while teammate CHARLOTTE WAKEFIELD, Manawatū's MYAH DAWSON and Taranaki's ZOE ELLERTON-KELLY round out the non-travelling reserve crew on standby for the big week.
All the one-day matches are livescored here at www.cdcricket.co.nz with Monday's match against Northern Districts Under 19 also livestreamed.
Teams play a single round robin, with the champion decided by the points table after Friday's final round.
Central Districts last won this title two seasons ago in 2021/22, when the men's and women's CD U19 teams lifted the national trophies in the same season for the first time.
CD U19 women also won the title in its inaugural season as a new age-band, in 2019/10. Previously, the tournament had been contested at a national Under-21 title.
