The career of our newest CENTRAL HIND in the WHITE FERNS has taken another step up today with the announcement of NZC's women's Development Contracts for 2021/22.
CLAUDIA GREEN - currently on her maiden tour with the national side in England and in the frame for an international debut - has been awarded a Development contract, her first at NZC level.
Eight NZC Development contracts are awarded annually and among the fierce competition from emerging players, just two of those spots have been re-awarded this season.
"I'm super fizzed to receive a Development contract", said our super-fit pace bowler who juggles cricket with teaching at St Paul's Primary School in Richmond, Nelson after having graduated with a PE degree.
Green's already represented New Zealand in Indoor Cricket while her path towards top honours in the outdoor game accelerated with impressive performance for the Central Hinds last summer, particularly in the one-day Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
She was then selected for a New Zealand XI (a composite Domestic side) to play England in tour warm-ups in Queenstown in February, and again impressed WHITE FERNS head coach Bob Carter.
Despite "first-time jitters" she managed to take 2-31 off six overs in her first appearance against the strong side and then followed up by an outstanding 5-56 off 10 in the rematch just a couple of days later.

“I loved my experience with the New Zealand eleven last season and I’m looking forward to spending more time on my game thanks to this contract,” said Green who debuted for the Hinds in 2018/19.
NZC Head of Women’s High Performance, Ant Sharp, said it’s great to see Green and others in the newly contracted group already familiarising themselves with the WHITE FERNS environment.
“These contracts give up-and-coming female cricketers a chance to learn, grow and develop, not only as players but as people, too.
“Part of the criteria for these contracts is picking players with potential to earn WHITE FERNS contracts in the future,” he said.
CDCA congratulates CLAUDIA GREEN on her first NZC Development contract and wishes the WHITE FERNS all the best for the current tour of England. Central Hinds contracts for 2021/22 will be announced in the near future.
