ADAM MILNE, WILL YOUNG IN BLACKCAPS T20 TEAM

ADAM MILNE has won a BLACKCAPS T20i recall while WILL YOUNG is set to add a T20 International debut to his maiden Test and ODI caps this season.

The 28-year-old pair were named this afternoon in the BLACKCAPS’ T20 squad to play Bangladesh in the upcoming doubleheader series with the WHITE FERNS and world champions Australian women’s team.

For quick bowler Milne, it’s a return to the big stage since his last appearance for the BLACKCAPS against Pakistan in November 2018.

Since then, the explosive paceman has won a Super Smash title with the Stags (2019) and impressed for the Kent Spitfires in England’s Vitality Blast (2019) and Sydney Thunder in this year’s BBL, following his latest return from injury.

Both Milne and fellow speedster Lockie Ferguson have been named in an exciting new-look BLACKCAPS squad, which also features the uncapped Finn Allen, the standout player for the Wellington Firebirds in the shortest format this summer.

Granted a 2020/21 contract release by CDCA to allow him to play in Australia's Big Bash, Milne has been training with the Central Stags squad since returning from the BBL and doing his time in MIQ - and will depart immediately after the Alesha Mart Series for this year's IPL, alongside a bevy of other BLACKCAPS.

BLACKCAPS Selector Gavin Larsen said compiling this squad, like many this summer, had been complex.

“It’s certainly been a season like no other and we’ve had to be pragmatic in our approach,” Larsen said.

“The six guys who will miss this Series are incumbents in our T20 side, and the decision to give them some time at home with family before they embark on a long stint in India was principally made with their welfare in mind.

“We’re also very aware of the need to give others opportunities in a World Cup year, and it’s great to be able to introduce Finn and Will to the set-up, as well as welcome back Lockie and Adam.

“We’re delighted to see Lockie and Adam return after working really hard to get back to this point. They are two of the premier fast bowlers in world cricket, and it’s fantastic to be able to call on their services in what is shaping as a big year of T20 cricket.

"Both Lockie and Milney are travelling nicely. They're still working through their bowling loads, but they are back, and they are fighting fit, and most importantly they're incredibly enthusiastic about getting back out there on the park."

“It’s especially an exciting time for Finn who will be getting his first taste of the BLACKCAPS environment.

“His Super Smash campaign with the Firebirds was nothing short of outstanding and we believe he has the skills to succeed at the next level."

The BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS play the second doubleheader one week from today (Tuesday) at Napier’s McLean Park, with tickets selling fast. CENTRAL HINDS Rosemary Mair and Hannah Rowe have been named in the WHITE FERNS squad and stand to play their a T20i at their Hawke's Bay home ground for the first time.
