While all cricket's currently on hold due to Covid-19, CD Cricket would like to congratulate St Matthew's Collegiate School and New Plymouth Boys' High School who won our respective National Primary School Shield (Girls) and Junior Secondary School Boys regional CD finals this month, for the 2019/20 season.

NZC's Secondary School Junior Boys national finals had been due to start on 30 March 2020, and of course this tournament has now been cancelled in line with Wednesday's New Zealand-wide season cancellation for the remainder of 2019/20.

The girls' NZC National Primary School Shield national finals are due to be held at Lincoln in November 2020, and naturally we will be waiting on official advice from the national body for reconfirmation of next season's calendar.

National Primary School Shield (Years 7 & 8 Girls)

Four teams contested our CD regional finals this summer:

• St Matthew's from Wairarapa
• Sacred Heart from New Plymouth
• Whanganui's Huntley School
• Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School representing Manawatu

These four teams met in the CD Finals round robin tournament on March 10 at Huntley School... where there were not one, but two dramatic last-ball finishes, with the Palmerston North girls involved in both!

What an amazing tournament. Congratulations to St Matthew's Collegiate who finished undefeated for the CD title.

    Huntley School 55/5 (15 ov) lost to St Matthew's Collegiate 56/0 (7.4 ov)

    Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School 71/8 (11.2 ov) defeated Sacred Heart Girls' College 48/7 (15 ov)

    ROUND 3

    Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School 67/8 (11.3 ov) lost to Huntley School 69/7 (15 ov)

   St Matthew's Collegiate 101/6 (15 overs) defeated Sacred Heart Girls' College 40/8 (11.3 ov)

Junior Secondary School Boys (Years 9 & 10)

This season, we were treated to a classic final showdown between New Plymouth Boys' High and Napier Boys' High.

It was a very tight, closely fought match which had many momentum swings before the New Plymouth boys finally made it through as this season's regional champion!

It's obviously very disappointing for the lads not to be able to go on to represent us at national level, but again, our congratulations on a very solid summer - and CD title.

    New Plymouth Boys' High School 148 all out (37.5 overs) defeated Napier Boys' High School 143 all out (39.1 overs) by five runs at Manawaroa Park, 13 March 2020
