Central Districts girls and boys have been named today in the 2019/20 Māori Secondary Schools sides to play the Governor General’s XIs at Wellington’s Karori Park later this month.

The inaugural Māori Secondary Schoolgirls team and fixture is an exciting addition to the representative pathway, following NZC's launch of the Schoolboys equivalent last summer.

The schoolgirls' team includes CD U21 and U19 national champion Ocean Bartlett.

The teams will assemble in Wellington on Tuesday, February 18 and will stay at the Pipitea Marae for the remainder of the week, engaging in many activities with a focus on connecting with tikanga.

The games will be played on Thursday, February 20, the schoolgirls’ side playing two T20s (10.30AM and 3PM) and the schoolboys a 50-over contest (10.30AM), a team that includes CD age-group representatives Curtis Heaphy and Joel Clark, as well as Payton Spencer, the son of former All Black Carlos Spencer.

Former BLACKCAPS Test wicketkeeper Adam Parore will join both teams in a supportive and mentoring role and be present at the capping ceremony at Pipitea Marae on the Wednesday.
