Our Central Districts Women's Under-19 side has made a promising start at the inaugural women's NZC National Women’s Under 19 Tournament in Lincoln.
Today's a rest day, so let's catch up on the action so far.
ROUND THREE
One-Day • 19 December 2019
Central Districts picks up first win
Early wickets from Nelson indoor cricket star Saffron Wilson (3-23) and an anchoring 70 from Palmerston North's Ashtuti Kumar ensured CD dominated Otago on Lincoln No.3.
Otago U19 had won the toss and batted, but Wilson put herself on a hat-trick in her second over, then struck again five deliveries later to have the southerners in an early tangle at 17 for three.
When a swift throw from Ocean-Jade Bartlett ran out Olivia Gain in the ninth, Otago was on the back foot and it took a string of lower-middle order partnerships for Otago to get some scoreboard traction.
Napier's Margot Scoular (2-32 off 10) and Wairarapa's Kate Sims (0-17 off six) proved hard to get away as Otago scrambled to 184 before being bowled out in 45 overs, Paige Loggenberg left stranded on a valiant unbeaten 49* down the order.

In the chase, allrounder Kumar (70 off 95, above) joined Scoular after the early loss of Sims, and batted through until the 37th over - by which time CD needed just 35 further runs for a five-wicket victory, completed with plenty of time to spare.

ROUND TWO
One-Day • 18 December 2019
CD denied in a tight thriller
Weather finally played ball but Northern Districts U19 women grabbed a two-wicket win over Central U19 on Lincoln No. 3.
Northern opted to bowl first and a couple of early strikes from Kayley Knight had them with the early ascendancy.
Central’s middle order rallied, Kate Gaging (40*) a standout with the top score at an impressive strike rate.
However, Makayla Templeton’s arrival at the bowling crease swung things back in Northern’s favour, her 3-19 off 4.3 overs accounting for the middle and lower order and setting up a chase of 144 for victory.
The Northern batting card started well with openers Annie Ewart and Holly Topp putting on 40 for the first wicket.
Despite losing three wickets to runouts, the Northern batters held their nerve to squeak home by two wickets in the final over, Lucy Boucher (37) top scoring at better than a run-a-ball, her innings including five fours and one six.

ROUND ONE
One-Day • 17 December 2019
CD on top ... until weather intervenes
In a one-dayer reduced to just 20 overs per side after morning rain, our new CD Under 19 Women’s side made a very exciting start to the first round at Nationals.
CD captain Monique Rees had opted to field first and was rewarded with her side restricting Canterbury to 102 for six in their 20 overs, Nelson’s Saffron Wilson bagging an outstanding 4-21.
In the chase, CD openers Margot Scoular (33* off 23 balls) and Gemma Sims (20* off 19) got off to a flier and were well ahead of the required run rate at 53 for no loss after just seven overs - but then the rain returned and spoiled what should have been a comfortable opening round victory for Central.
