NELSON TO HOST NZC NORTH v SOUTH T20S

There's more great news for our cricket family in the Top of the South today with Nelson's Saxton Oval set to host NZC's annual North v South Series - three T20 matches played as an island-of-origin style contest between leading Domestic women's stars.

That said, last season's series saw Nelson Nyxon and CENTRAL HINDS keeper-batter KATE GAGING representing the North, alongside Hinds teammates!

Whether that anomaly continues is yet to be revealed, but either way it's a free admission fiesta of T20 cricket coming up for Nelson in mid-December, an earlier slot in the season than the usual end-of-season fling.

The venue announcement also marks a significant milestone for Nelson Cricket whose ongoing commitment to the growth of women's and girls' cricket makes the region a natural choice to host one of the country’s dedicated female Domestic match-ups.

The North v South series showcases the top women’s domestic talent across New Zealand, providing players with an additional launchpad to make their case for international honours.

Since its debut in the 1998/99 season (with men's T20s), the North v South series has been contested seven times, with a female focus now entrenched in the calendar and the rivalry reigniting in recent years.

The North currently hold the upper hand and this year’s series will be especially meaningful, given Nelson Cricket’s big efforts in women's and girls' participation.

Jake Inwood, Nelson Cricket General Manager, says hosting the series in the school holidays is an exciting opportunity for the region.

“Nelson Cricket has prioritised growing the women's and girls' game with the launch of our Women and Girls Strategy, and the Nelson Women's Cricket Club this year,” says Inwood.

“To have New Zealand’s best female stars coming to our backyard is massive.

"We’re hoping for a strong turnout from the local community these holidays and, in turn, to inspire some future WHITE FERNS.

The combination of Saxton Oval’s world-class facilities and a passionate local cricket community is a recipe for a memorable series.

All matches will be free entry, and Nelson locals can look forward to a variety of activations, including opportunities to meet the players with some of the country’s top Domestic stars - including WHITE FERNS.

The series will also be broadcast live and free here at www.cdcricket.co.nz

Team announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
