ABBY TREDER EARNS MAIDEN CONTRACT

The contracted squad for the 2025/26 CENTRAL HINDS season is complete, with the first-time inclusion of Manawatū teen ABBY TREDER announced today.

Treder joins Manawatū teammate JESS OGDEN as the two new faces on the finalised list of 13 players contracted for the coming summer.

The first 12 were announced in the first step of the annual two-step process earlier this month and, like Ogden, Treder is no stranger to the team.

The powerful young batter made her Hinds debut in the Dream11 Super Smash in January this year, against the Auckland Hearts at McLean Park.

The 19-year-old has also featured for Central Districts at age-group and CD A level over recent seasons, and has been on the national development radar, too.

Treder was selected for an official NZC New Zealand Development Squad last year that travelled to Queensland to play Sri Lanka U19 and Australia U19.

The right-hander will be part of a youthful Hinds squad this summer, one that offers golden opportunities for a young batter to put their hand up and contribute.

The batting order has vacancies to fill in the wake of the retirements this year of veterans MIKAELA GREIG and THAMSYN NEWTON, while prolific top order batter NATALIE DODD remains unavailable, having taken last season off to focus on motherhood and now sidelined by injury.

The Hinds’ season begins with the national one-day Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in November, a double-banger weekend at New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park against the Canterbury Magicians opening the season on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November.

That weekend could see Treder make her List A (one-day) debut, to go alongside the T20 debut in a big year for the ex-Tararua College student.

While still at school, she was a member of the 2021/22 Central Districts Under 19 team that won the national Under 19 title, and she was one of the top runscorers in the tournament when the team finished as the runners-up the following season, Treder with a 50+ average.

DAVE MEIRING, High Performance Manager for Central Districts Cricket, said Treder had earned her elevation after stepping up consistently through the CD Cricket pathway.

“Abby has shown us a lot of potential at National Tournaments in recent times, and it was great to see her receive her first opportunity with the Hinds last summer,” he said.

“She is a powerful striker of the ball, and has shown ability at both age-group and inter-district level to take the game away from the opposition.

“We want to continue that development journey with her this season in the hope that she can show those traits on the Domestic scene in the not-too-distant future.”

The full schedule for both the Central Stags and Central Hinds was announced earlier this month and can be found at www.cdcricket.co.nz
