Two outstanding young CD batsmen named in the short New Zealand Development men's internal series have enjoyed a profitable week in Lincoln.
The NZ Development squad played Otago A in a two-day match earlier this week, followed by a one-dayer and T20 against a strong Canterbury A team, all at Lincoln No.3 at the NZC High Performance Centre.
Both CURTIS HEAPHY and WILL CLARK have already represented the Central Stags at first-class level this year, and they both made their mark for NZ Development with unbeaten centuries.
Heaphy retired not out on 117* in the opening fixture, after having batted for almost five and a half hours. He top-scored in a high-scoring draw against Otago A.
Match two was the one-dayer and this time it was Clark raising the bat with a big ton, guiding the team home to a good eight-wicket victory.
Clark had come in at first drop at 65/1 in the eighth over and hit the winning run with 1.2 overs to spare, chasing down Canterbury A's 327/7 after they had elected to set a target.
Clark finished on 124 not out off 120 balls with 13 boundaries and two sixes in his match-winning knock, with support from Wellingtonian Jesse Tashkoff's unbeaten 77*.
The week ended with a T20 that Canterbury A claimed to the tune of 70 runs. Winning the toss, they put 193/8 on the board at the boutique oval, a patchy effort held up by 72 off 45 from Bevon-John Jacobs at the top.
Clark took a wicket but the chase went awry for New Zealand Development despite a run-a-ball 30 from Heaphy who batted into the 13th over.
Meanwhile in Nerul, near Mumbai in India, young Central Hind OCEAN BARTLETT was named to captain the ground-breaking women's NZ Development team in the opening two-match T20 series against West Indies Under 19, and lifted the trophy for New Zealand.
A quasi-NZ Under 19 team, the women's NZ Development team now play India Under 19 in a five-match T20 series.
