NATALIE DODD JETS IN FOR HINDS

Last summer she was the Central Hinds’ Player of the Year. This season she was appointed the team’s new one-day captain. Now, NATALIE DODD is finally getting to play a match.

After having missed the opening four matches of the 2021/22 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, Dodd is finally free to play for her team after Waikato Alert Level restrictions were eased this week.

The Hamilton-based Deputy Principal commutes to CD to represent the side and is excited to be heading to Levin today ahead of a golden opportunity against Northern Districts this weekend - a side that will also have a fresh captain, Kate Anderson, and three debutantes.

In Dodd's absence, the Hinds have suffered two heavy defeats to Otago followed by two rain-ruined abandonments, and are hungry to make headway at Donnelly Park.

Like Dodd herself, ND will be playing their first matches of the summer, after lockdowns and restrictions had forced a season restructure.

The Hinds were meant to play Auckland last weekend but found themselves heading to Dunedin for a Sparks rematch instead — only to sit around watching the rain fall all weekend.

Central took home four points from the fruitless exercise and now have a chance to fight back on the table with Dodd’s experience and consistent run-scoring at the top of the order.

Dodd has 4,612 runs at a quality batting average of almost 40.00 from 145 List A one-day appearances, and plays a pivotal role as the team’s number one wicketkeeper.

Whilst the Hinds are excited to have 'Doddy' back in their midst - and are no doubt motivated to make her captaincy debut a successful occasion, they will be missing two key strike bowlers this weekend.

CLAUDIA GREEN is unavailable due to family commitments, and the team is also still without the useful services of Napier-based contracted WHITE FERN ROSEMARY MAIR.

The pace bowler developed a stress reaction in her shin earlier this year that saw her omitted from the WHITE FERNS’ recent tour to England — Green taking her place on that tour.

In a home one-day World Cup season for the national side, her full return to the bowling crease is being managed with caution.

On the bright side, the Hinds have regained GEORGIA ATKINSON after injury saw the Manawatū leg-spinner miss the Dunedin trip, while WHITE FERNS allrounder HANNAH ROWE continues to add potency to the line-up with both bat and ball.

Saturday’s action begins at 10.30am in Levin while Sunday’s game starts half an hour earlier at 10am. Matches are live-scored at cdcricket.co.nz
