The current NZC Master Agreement between New Zealand Cricket, the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association, and the six Major Associations across New Zealand means Central Districts Cricket is able to contract 16 Stags players per season - with the contractual period running from early September to mid-April.
The list of 2026/27 contracted players will be announced ahead of the forthcoming season.
A player doesn't necessarily need to be contracted to represent the team: players also earn selection for the top squad via performances for our CD Cricket A and other Development and District pathways.
Occasionally, additional contracts are announced during the season - for example, to replace a contracted player who is no longer able to fulfil his contractual obligations, or to replace a Stags contracted player who has been 'elevated' to a BLACKCAPS contract.
Twenty players from across New Zealand are awarded annual BLACKCAPS contracts each year, and these players are also available to play for their home Major Association.
