The NZC Master Agreement between New Zealand Cricket, the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association, and the six Major Associations across New Zealand allows CD to contract 16 Stags per season.
The contracted players are the top-ranked performers, but a player doesn't need to be contracted to represent the team - and players can also earn selection via performances for CD A and other Development and District pathway teams in CD, and may form part of the team's wider squad for the summer.
Twenty players from across New Zealand are also awarded BLACKCAPS contracts each year, and these contracted BLACKCAPS are available to play for their home Domestic team when they are not on international duty or standown.
Will Young and Blair Tickner are the Stags' contracted BLACKCAPS for 2026/27. Sam Cassidy and Jake Gibson are first-time Stags contractees.
