FLORA DEVONSHIRE's big year continues as she gets ready to lead our CENTRAL HINDS for the first time this weekend.

The Hinds are heading to Taupō for the annual preseason tournament where they will play four T20s, against Wellington Blaze, the Auckland Hearts, Northern Districts and the Otago Sparks, across Sunday and Monday at Owen Delany Park.

Most of the Hinds contracted squad will get a run, while ROSEMARY MAIR and HANNAH ROWE are away with the WHITE FERNS in India at the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Devonshire was also selected for the World Cup (for the first time) and played in the warm-up games, but had to return home early from India after suffering a laceration to her hand in training.

Fortunately the injury has healed sufficiently to get back on the park this Sunday and with it comes the consolation of a Hinds captaincy debut, to add to a year in which she has already made her WHITE FERNS debut (at the end of last season), toured England with New Zealand A, been honoured with the Hinds' HBJ Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards (the latter jointly with CLAUDIA GREEN) and starred in a breathtaking, near-record HBJ win with a career-best batting performance.

At 22, the left-handed allrounder is also already emerging as a natural leader in the youthful squad and, while the full-time captaincy of the Hinds for this season is yet to be announced, Devonshire will a role in the leadership group.

The Hinds' hit-out this Labour Weekend also sees fellow Hawke's Bay scion CATE PEDERSEN poised to make her first appearance for the team since the 2022/23 season, after which Pedersen represented the Auckland Hearts whilst studying in Auckland.

She returns now for 2025/26 as a contracted Hinds player.
