Long established as New Zealand's end-of-season tournament, the Trilogy Financial Solutions National Club Cricket Championship pits each Major Association's top club against each other for an annual national crown.
Run by Auckland's Cornwall Cricket Club at the conclusion of the Domestic calendar, first-class and international players often turn out for their club side at this enjoyable tournament. Many Central Stags have played here over the years.
The 2019/20 championship was to have been held in April 2020, and would have seen a change from the one-day to a T20 format for the first time. However, the nationals were cancelled due to the country going into a COVID-19 Level Four lockdown. Likewise, with the country in the midst of the Omicron peak, the 2021/2022 tournament was not held.
Napier Technical Old Boys has been CD's most successful club in recent times.
Napier Tech had won the right to represent Central Districts for a third season in a row in 2020 - and had won the NZ title for the previous two years, against strong competition! Napier Tech had also won the national crown in 2002/03.
The "Texans" had qualified as Hawke's Bay's 2020 regional club champion, after defeating Central Hawke's Bay in the provincial final at Nelson Park in December 2019. Then they defeated Wairarapa's regional champion Red Star in a Super Over finish on 26 January 2020 in Masterton, before sealing national qualification at February 2020's CD Knockout Finals in Palmerston North.
With the 2019/20 season tournament then being cancelled due to COVID, Cornwall Cricket Club decided that the teams that had qualified that summer would instead proceed to contest the 2020/21 tournament in April 2021.
With one win from the first three rounds, Napier Tech missed the 1v2 Final after rain washed out the fourth and fifth rounds on Saturday. They were then beaten by Lancaster Park in Sunday's 3v4 playoff to finish fourth for 2021.
Captain TODD WATSONwas named Allrounder of the Tournament.
